Greetings from Guatemala!

We are here and doing well. We haven’t even been robbed yet! Between my bright blonde hair and Mike’s above-average height, we are becoming quite accustomed to having people stare at us, but we are enjoying every minute of it. To anyone who saw where we lived in Provo, you won’t be surprised to hear that our hotel room is much larger. The shower, for example, is several times the size of our last one! The hotel is much fancier than anything we would ever stay in back in the US. Even though you can’t flush toilet paper here, the buildings we have been in are quite clean. We will only be in the city this week for our training. We started teaching el Taller de Autosuficiencia Laboral (Career Workshop) less than 24 hours after arriving. We are teaching one workshop in the morning and another in the afternoon. The Employment Center is very busy, so finding students is easy. We’ll have to see how that compares to Quetzaltenango, where we will be in about a week. After our security briefing during our training back in Utah, I must admit that I was a bit scared to come here. I have a pretty active imagination. I feel much better, though, now that we are actually here. However, having armed guards outside almost every building is still taking some getting used to. The ones at the banks with their fingers on their triggers are especially frightening.
