No, I didn't hit a pedestrian. But I almost hit 2 jaywalkers.
Ironically, the first incident was only some feet from the "Hit a Pedestrian, Change your lives" billboard on State street just as you come into Provo. Three high schoolers just ran across that wide part of State street. Plenty of traffic. Dumb. High schoolers do dumb things sometimes. I was a high schooler once.
Then, not a mile later, in front of the hospital, cars on both sides of the road had to brake as a grown-up, scrub-wearing, health professional made his way across the busy road (away from the hospital). No light. No crosswalk. Plenty of traffic. Dumb. Doctors do dumb things sometimes. I was a patient once.
[That wasn't originally intended as a slam on the medical profession. I just couldn't resist the parallels. Really though... jetting out in front of fast moving cars isn't a very healthy decision for anyone.]

I’m so glad you didn’t hit any of these. . but thanks for the smile! AND. . . you haircut post inspired me. . I had Jonathan cut mine off this morning. . .and then I tried to add layers. . . and now he has to fix my major ruining of his perfectly fine haircut. . . problem is, it is going to get shorter and shorter. . . yikes!
I feel your pain. Although I have plenty of stories of almost being hit by cars while I was legally in crosswalks or of covering my eyes while I was stopped for pedestrians in crosswalks because I was so afraid they’d get hit by the cars speeding around my stopped car and through the crosswalks without looking to see why I was stopped, I do have at least one stupid pedestrian story.
We were driving in the parking lot at BYU campus–in the middle of the parking lot and nowhere near a crosswalk–when a co-ed stepped out into the street and almost in front of our car. We barely avoided hitting her and she yelled at us, “Pedestrians have the right of way!”
Um yeah. In a cross walk.
So maybe I should do the driving when we come out next week? :)
Just to set the record straight… I didn’t come that close to hitting anyone. I am a good driver!!
In the first case I just ha to brake for the car in front of me who was braking for the jaywalkers. In the second case, I saw the cars on the other side of the stop, so I did really almost hit the doctor guy.
Mostly, I was just aggravated that people kept jumping out in front of traffic.
It’s a Provo thing, I’m sure of it. I’ve had to stop for dumb doctors in scrubs crossing the street by the hospital. It’s like they don’t even realize that they work in a college town where most of the people (high school or college students) wouldn’t necessarily pay attention. Besides, you take your life in your hands crossing the crosswalks in Provo!
Ha Ha Ha. You are great. I enjoyed both the slam on teenagers and doctors, I too have been a dumb teenager and a questioning patient…
