Sister and Brother

How is Eliza handling all the excitement at our house? Pretty well, I suppose. She loves her baby brother and gives him lots of long, wet kisses. She nearly lays on top of him in order to reach his face to kiss him when he's in his car seat. He is the first thing she wants to see when she gets up in the morning. At first she called him by the first syllable of his name, but she is starting to get the second syllable in there now. Sometimes she just calls him "baby" (or "babies" since she recently started making it plural most of the time). She loves to point out all of his body parts. She is fascinated by his diaper changes and always asks for a diaper change when she sees him getting one.

As you may have guessed, it's not all hugs and kisses. Eliza has spent many minutes (like 20 seconds at a time) in time-out for hitting and stepping on Baby Caleb. We are always within an arm's reach, so he hasn't sustained any injuries from Eliza's tough love. Thankfully, it is getting better. She hasn't hit (or attempted to hit) him in several days. Other menacing pastimes include stealing blankets and socks, pushing vigorously in the swing, and roughly rocking the car seat.

At first, Eliza would get really jealous when I would nurse Caleb. She wanted to be on my lap and wanted the baby to go away. Every time I would feed him she would cry and throw a little fit. She was curious about what he was doing and where this milk was coming from, which surprised me since it had only been about four months or so since I weaned her. Apparently she has forgotten. Thankfully, she will now settle for reading a book with me while I nurse. Or sometimes, she'll bring one of her babies and join me.

I love that last picture! My boys ask lots of questions about nursing and I've been doing it with Tingen for almost a year now! Parker has never gotten over the "tough" love and now Tingen actually LOVES it. He laughs for joy when Parker climbs on top of him or starts pushing his tummy. Mom is a different story...
