Happy New Year 2008!

Dear family and friends, we want you to hear
About all that has happened since writing last year.
It's been a full year; we've been very blessed,
So listen up closely, we'll tell you the rest.

Our year started out with the roughest of starts--
The death of our Lily broke both of our hearts.
Trisomy 18, a condition so rare,
Took her life early, not one breath of air.
We held her and loved her, so tiny and sweet,
We know after this life again we will meet.
The pain is still vivid; her absence we feel.
With faith and with time our hearts start to heal.

To keep ourselves busy and help us to cope
We got some new hobbies that gave us fresh hope.
We planted a garden -- for Steph this was new--
Thankfully Michael knew just what to do.
We worked every day, at times late at night,
To make sure our veggies would turn out just right.
The work was rewarding, our harvest was grand.
We had so much more than we ever planned.

When not in the garden, our bodies we trained
To swim and to bike and to run we both strained.
A triathlon was the goal that we'd set.
With hard work and practice by June it was met.
Our times were much faster than we ever thought.
Now races for next year we're starting to plot.

Now Michael's been done with school for a year,
But wants to go back, though the details aren't clear.
He's got some ideas and some programs he likes
So now applications are stacking up. Yikes!
Each day at his work new software he tests;
That he loves his job nobody contests.

Stephanie works for just half of the day,
Plus volunteering and housework and play.
Though it's a nice job, she soon will resign
To take on another job much more divine!
We're both excited for babe number two.
The end of next month is when she is due.

Our thanks for the Savior and Father above
Has deepened and grown as we've felt of their love.
Christ carries our burdens and makes them feel light
So even through trials our pathway is bright.
We're thankful to know you and hope that you're fine.
When you have a minute please drop us a line!

Hey Steph,
Thanks for the update. You guys always do an awesome job on those they are fun to read! I am sorry to hear about little Lily, but you are very right she will be with you again. Keep in mind she was a spirit who needed a body, but didn’t need to be smoothed around the edges like the rest of us! On the other hand congrats on the new one and my best wishes and prayers to you!!! Keep smiling because you are amazing!!!!!

You are so clever with verse and word.
Why you don’t write more is quite absurd.
We are so happy for the baby that is due,
We hope for another poem announcing her too.
Of your poetry we can’t get enough.
Mike and Steph, you got the right stuff.
