Easter Dress and Easter Egg Hunt

About a month ago, I decided I was going to make Eliza an Easter dress. I remember with fondness the Easter dresses my mom made for my sisters and me, so I wanted to have that tradition in my family.

Now I have made myself a few dresses for costumes, but I had never done the zipper or sleeves without help (mom doing them for me). I had also never sewn anything for a baby. I was excited about the pattern that I found, and got started early. Most of the work was done at weekly craft nights that I go to with several of the other law school wives. My mom coached my from afar on the sleeves and zipper (I called her a hundred times), but I sewed everything myself. I'm so happy with how it turned out!

This morning (yes, I am posting the same day), we got together with some of the other LDS law students for a pre-conference brunch and egg hunt for the the kids. It was fun and delicious. Eliza didn't quite get the idea of gathering lots of eggs. She wanted to sit on the ground and play with the first one she found, but I kept her going.

As you can see, I didn't stop with Eliza's dress. I made myself a skirt, as well! I still have to add the final touches, so I'll save detail pictures for later, but you can get a sneak peek at least. I'm also planning on making Mike a matching tie (no zipper, no sleeves, no problem, right?)!

Here's a shot of all the kiddos that participated:

I'm convinced you're not a Turner. Didn't you know Easter is a whole week away? You shouldn't be adding the zipper until at least midnight this coming Saturday. What's gotten into you?

So cute!! Love the dress and skirt. I haven't been brave enough yet to try real clothes for the kids- just a few skirts here and there. Well done! And she's getting huge!!

I keep coming back to look at these pictures, her dress is so cute! You're amazing! Maybe if I can get some skills I can make a dress next year, you've inspired me! I love the matching skirt too. I can't wait for a family pic with mike's matching tie! Way to go!

Nice job, Steph! I'm so proud of you! If I had done a better job of teaching you to sew when you were living at home, you wouldn't have had to ask for help over the phone. But it was kind of fun trying to explain things without being able to see the project! I'm always up for a good challenge/game/puzzle! I'd like to make matching dresses for all of my granddaughters to wear the next time we're all together. Hmmmm, I guess I should get started now. Nah! If I did that, I might mess up tradition and finish them before the last minute. Hey, I can think of ONE time when I had something completed ahead of time. Darbie's wedding dress was finished two weeks early! Tah-dah! Yours was finished in the bride's room in the temple. And Whitney's was properly completed (underskirt hemmed) for the reception in Ohio a couple of weeks after the wedding. Oh, well.
