At one year old (I know, this past year has flown), Caleb is quite the climber. He is not satisfied with his altitude until he has reached the highest point in sight. He doesn't walk by himself yet, but he gets around well holding onto furniture. He crawls traditionally (only slithering on occasion) now and does it fast!
Caleb is becoming a picky eater. Bananas are almost always safe, but other food preferences vary by the day. He has also become very independent in the feeding department. He insists on holding his own spoon or fork and will only eat the food that comes off of the utensil in his hand. He doesn't fall for the you-entertain-yourself-with-this-spoon-while-I-feed-you-with-the-other-one trick. He's actually pretty good, though there is still always a mess when he's done.
Unfortunately, Caleb still doesn't sleep through the night. I still nurse him at least once, and usually several times a night. It's a habit we have been struggling to break him of for a while now. We have let him scream for over an hour in hopes that he would go to sleep, but it always ends up waking up Eliza (and when she is woken up, she always gets up on the wrong side of the bed, if you know what I mean). Her middle-of-the-night fits are always much worse and much more difficult to calm than his, so I continue to wake up and feed him (and take him into bed with us) through the night.
Lately Caleb has been doing lots of things like a big kid. He picks up a brush and brushes his hair. He tries to put shirts over his head. He puts on Eliza's necklaces, tiaras, and purses.
Caleb enjoys playing peek-a-boo, something he picked up pretty much on his own. I don't think we really played it with him until he started putting clothes or blankets over his head and would wait or us to find him. He loves peek-a-boo.
Caleb likes to take care of Eliza's babies. He's going to be a great daddy someday.
We haven't done much signing with Caleb, but he does know "more" and "bye." He says "mama," "dada," "da" (dog), "ba" (banana and bite).
Caleb is just above the average for height (29 7/8") and weight (25 lbs 4 oz). The doctor said he looks great. He also was a champ with his vaccines. As soon as I picked him up he stopped crying.
Caleb has a pleasant disposition most of the time. People always comment on how easy going and calm he is.
We sure do love him!
