It's hard to believe that I have a kindergartner. I really do feel too young. Even though it's hard to remember what life was like before kids, it seems like I can't have had them long enough to send one of them off to school. I wasn't ready to let her spend a good portion of her day with someone else.
I felt like I hadn't taught her enough. Sure, she can do math and is starting to read. Academically she will be just fine. She listens and cooperates and will surely be a good helper for her teacher. She is socially mature and aware of what is going on around her. But have I taught her how to face the world?
I hope that the world will be kind to her and that she will know how to handle the times it isn't. I hope that she withstand peer pressure and make good choices. I hope that she will stand up for what is right and be a shining example to those around her. I hope she will be gentle and compassionate.
Thankfully, I only let her go for 3.5 hours for half-day kindergarten. Grandpa drops her off on his way to work each morning and I pick her up at noon, right after lunch.
She attends the same school Mike did. Mike's mom was also the music teacher there for many years. I think it's pretty nostalgic for Mike to have Eliza following his elementary school footsteps :)
She is loving it.
I knew she would.

I felt the same way when I sent Sam off to kindergarten. They spend so much of their day away from home now...
