Caleb at 27 months

Becoming a Big Brother was definitely the highlight of this month for Caleb.  He really loves Joshua.  I think there have only been two times when Caleb asked me to put Joshua down and hold him (and they were both when Caleb was very tired and cranky).  Usually he is asking to hold Joshua, which he does very well.  Caleb was the first one to start calling him "Baby Josh" (to which Eliza always responds "No, it's Baby Joshua!").

Caleb is easily scared.  Did you know we have sharks and alligators and dinosaurs and monsters in our house?   If you did then maybe you'd be scared too.  Eliza has a wild imagination and she eggs him on in his frightened-ness.  He also is fascinated with the antagonists in stories and movies.  He looks through the princess books and finds the "mean people" and won't stop talking about them.  His favorite (by favorite, I mean the one he focuses most on) is "mean lady with poison apple" in Snow White.  He also likes to find the bad guys in the picture scriptures.

Caleb loves to sing.  We randomly find him singing all the time. Caleb is also good at memorizing.  We often hear him quoting poems of Articles of Faith.  Here is a 9 second video of Caleb reciting the 2nd Article of Faith (minus a few prepositions).  For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it says "We believe that men will be punished for their own sins and not for Adam's transgression."

Caleb wakes up a lot during the night.  Sometimes he falls off his bed.  Sometimes he needs to go potty.  Sometimes he probably needs to go potty but is too disoriented to realize it.  Poor Mike is always the one to get up with the older kids.  Sometime I don't even hear him wake up.

Caleb never walks.  He either runs, jumps, or gallops.

Caleb's finger spends way too much time doing this.  We are working on breaking this lovely habit.

Caleb loves riding "his" bike.  He doesn't care that it is pink and purple.  At our neighborhood block party when the street was blocked off, he had a blast cruising up and down the road.

Caleb seems so big to me now.  Whenever I hold him I cannot get over how huge his head is!

I got haunted house brownie decorating kits after Halloween for super cheap, so we made a delicious family activity out of it.

Poor Caleb is really susceptible to croup.  Mike is especially sympathetic because he had the same problem as a child (and up through his freshman year in college).  About a week before Joshua decided to make his appearance we ended up taking Caleb to the Emergency Room in the middle of the night.  Fortunately my mom was around, so she stayed home with sleeping Liza.  When we showed up, they asked if I was in labor, which I thought was pretty funny as I was perfectly calm and normal, not to mention we brought our two-year-old with us.  After waiting forever, Caleb got a breathing treatment and a steroid that helped him through the night.  It's so sad to see him in such misery and unable to breathe.  My heart goes out to parents who have to see their children suffer with much worse things on a regular basis.  I am so grateful for healthy children.
