Halloween 2011

Halloween 2011: The Wizard of OZ

Tin Man with Toto, Dorothy, Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow

Knowing that the baby was due just weeks before Halloween, I got started on costumes early.  I had Eliza and Caleb's costumes nearly done before October was even here.  The baby's Toto costume was done well before the baby was.

I bought red sparkle shoes at Target for $14, then found another pair in Eliza's size at a local consignment sale for $5!  Thankfully the tags were still on the Target ones, so I returned them and saved $9.

My mom was a huge help when it came to the mane on Caleb's costume.  Doesn't it look awesome!?

Joshua is drowning in the Toto costume I made him.  Oh well.  At least he was plenty warm.

Remember my crafty challenge to see how long I could go without buying fabric?  I confess that I bought the fleece for Caleb and Joshua's costumes.  Ten months is pretty darn good though.  I scored the fabric for Eliza's dress out of my Grandma's stash several years ago. For my shirt, I cut up an old button-up shirt of Mike's.

Mike put a lot of work into his costume the day of our debut.  Unfortunately the paint didn't dry in time to make use of it (and he didn't get all the details done to be able to use it at any of this year's festivities).  Thankfully I found him some silver-ish baseball pants that fit (like spandex) and a silver-ish long sleeve shirt that morning at a rummage sale.

I was pleased with how my scarecrow costume turned out even though I pulled most of it together at the last minute.  I think it looks pretty authentic (for the 1939 movie).

We all wore our costumes on 3 different occasions this year (a few more for the kiddos), but didn't take many pictures.  Thankfully Katie took some at our law school friends party and Dan took some at our church party.

Shut up! We totally dressed up as Wizard of Oz this year too! Edie was Dorothy, Allie wanted to be Toto, Nate was tin man, I was scarecrow, and Brandt was lion. We made my mom dress up as the wicked witch. I have to say, you guys look amazing! We splurged and used the target glitter shoes. Good job, Steph!
