Our Little Performers

Every three years the stake has a "Best of Broadway" production.  And it is quite a production!  There are something like 10 different group numbers and another 20 solos or duets.  Something like 200+ total performers. They have three performances and every one is a full house. This year they had a Disney theme.

Since we live in the boonies, we usually don't do many extra-curricular activities, but we made an exception for this one.  I really enjoy musical theater singing and dancing, so I was excited for my kids to get involved in it as well.

Eliza and Caleb were in a Tangled medley along with about 40 other 4- to 10-year-old boys and girls.  They practiced once a week for 2 months at the stake center (about an hour away).  Their instructor really had her hands full with so many kids.  Boys in that age range are especially challenging in quantity.

Notice Eliza is missing a front tooth?  She ate it along with a grilled cheese sandwich the day before at the dress rehearsal.  Don't worry-- we just chalked it up as a loss.

Caleb was one of the lucky thugs that got to wear an earring.  He couldn't stop touching it!

We tried to get some pictures of the kids outside, but they were on a silly streak.

"I'm malicious mean and scary..."  Caleb can sing every word of I've Got a Dream.

Eliza did a great job with singing and dancing.

The kids had a blast, made new friends, and got some performance experience.  They did a great job and everything came together nicely.  The kids still ask "When can we go to rehearsal again?"

My only regret is that Mike and I didn't get a number together and audition.  I thought it would have been fun to learn "Jolly Holiday" from Mary Poppins (since the costumes are ready to go), but the auditions were in December a week before we were leaving to go out of town.  And, Mike was a little intimidated by the thought of dancing like Dick Van Dyke.
