Sheep Shearing

The week after Eliza's birthday we went to a sheep shearing.  We went to help out, but mostly just enjoyed soaking in the new experience.

The sheep go through this every year, yet they are skiddish about the whole ordeal.  You would think they were headed to the slaughterhouse or something.

Probably the only thing we did to help was for Mike to run after one of the sheep that got out.  He carried it back.

I don't know much about shearing, but apparently the shearer did a very good job.  It's pretty neat that the fleece comes off all in one piece.  He does it all while wrestling with a sheep who doesn't want to be shorn.
It's interesting to watch how their personalities change after they are shorn.  Cutting off a year's worth of growth really cuts down their egos, at least for a time.  They seem to feel embarrassed by their nakedness.
