Neighbor girl meets possibly her first stay-at-home mom

Mike came with Eliza and I to the doctor's office for Eliza's 4 month check-up. Afterward, Mike dropped us off at home, then had to go back to work. As I got Eliza out of the car, one of our little neighbor friends pulled up on her bike. She is a very friendly 6-year-old. Every time I talk to her, she asks if the baby is a boy or girl, then plays with Eliza for a bit. Today's conversation had lots of little gems that made me giggle inside. Though the majority of our conversation was in Spanish, I'll post it in English for your reading ease.

Chica:
Why is your baby wet?
Me:
Wet?
Chica: Her mouth is all wet.
Me
: That's just slobber. It helps get her mouth ready for teeth. (Not technically correct, but it seemed to suffice. Apparently she hasn't spent much time around babies.)
Chica:
Oh
[Mike drives away to go back to work after our appointment that took way too long.]
Chica:
Do you guys only have one car?
Me:
Yep
Chica:
You don't have enough money for another car?
Me
: We don't need another car. We go most places together. During the day I stay home and take care of the baby while Mike goes to work.
Chica:
You don't go to work?
Me: Nope
Chica: You don't ever go to work?
Me:
Nope
Chica:
Not even at night?
Me:
Nope
Chica:
You never go to work?
Me:
Never
Chica:
You don't have a nanny?
Me:
Nope. I take care of the baby myself
Chica: You can go to the gym and they will take your baby while you get skinny. You just have to sign your name when you leave.
Me:
Oh really?
Chica:
Yeah. They take care of your baby for you. It's easy.
Me:
Oh
[Chica starts playing with Eliza's toes]
Chica:
She looks like a boy from here.
Me:
Oh?
Chica:
How did you know that she was a girl?
Me:
(Trying to think of something satisfying without going into anatomy... Shouldn't a 6-year-old know this already?) That's what the doctor told us.
Chica:
(Satisfied, but doubting the doctor) Oh

That’s hilarious! Kids say the funniest, weirdest things sometimes…

Ha! Ha! Ha! I love it. So funny. Kids are so dang honest with their questions and comments. It is fun to try and get a glimpse of their world and how they view it from what they say. I love the “that’s what the doctor told us” answer. I never would have been able to think of that on the spot. Not sure how I would have responded. Great thinking. Love it!

“That’s what the doctor told us.” That’s a good one!

I just thought of something. I’ve been wanting to learn Spanish. Are you interested in having a student sometime this fall?

Hey!! I just posted today about the dresses you sent and had the thought to google you and I found this blog! I lost your email address (because I lose everything and never sent a proper thank you for the dresses. The girls LOVE them. they wear them almost every week to church and other times in between. Anyway, how are you? If you want to email me and give me your email address then we can correspond without me leaving these huge comments. And I’m pretty sure I was going to email you something but I can’t remember what.

Little Eliza is getting so big! Our Eliza kept saying “I want to see more pictures of little Eliza” so we looked through them for a while.

Great post by the way, so funny!

That is the funniest thing I have heard since I returned back to the states. Thanks for the laughs. I think it is so funny how you hesitated after each comment trying to figure out what to say.
