Halloween Scare

When I got back from shopping on Halloween afternoon, I had a little bit of a scare. I saw that Mike had been raking in the front yard and thought he might be mowing in the back. I walked into the backyard and found this:

Fortunately, the scare didn't last very long. I called his name and he sat up. He was just taking a nap. We had a little mix-up this morning where Mike took both of our cell phones with him and I had both of our sets of keys with me. Mike realized he had my phone and called me on the home phone. I discovered the keys later, but had no way of calling Mike (land line doesn't have long distance). I emailed him to tell him that I put a rug out back with a key under it since I figured I'd be gone when he got home. I thought that if he didn't check his email before leaving school, he'd at least check it on his laptop when he got home and realized he was locked out. As it turned out, he didn't check his email. He said he even noticed that I put out a rug, but it didn't even cross his mind to look under it. Do you see the Yoplait container on the chair? He got thirsty so he ate the yogurt from his lunch, then filled it up with the spigot several times to get a drink. How's that for roughing it in your own backyard?

Note: This photo is a reinactment. He looks too comfortable. He was more sprawled out when I originally saw him.

Too funny! It’s too easy to do the cell phone/key mix up– especially when trying to get out the door with a little one in tow. I can’t believe he just fell asleep in the yard!

I would have been scared out of my mind. I love the reenactment photo shoot — it definitely adds the element of surprise necessary.
