Softball, Scooting, and Scouts

When we came to visit Illinois when Mike was trying to decide where he wanted to go to school, we found out that there were several LDS law students here. When we moved here are started school, we found out that there are 7 first-year students who are LDS. It has been fabulous to have a great group of friends right from the beginning! Nearly all of the LDS students are married, and most even have kids. Here are almost all the LDS U of I law school kiddos (another was born a few days after this picture):

The law school has a softball league and of course the LDS students have a team. We learned pretty quickly that everyone who's anyone plays. When we visited, I think almost as many people asked if we played softball as asked our names. When Mike talked with the dean, he even asked if we were going to play. So, of course, we're playing. We are having a great time! At first we were a little intimidated by the intensity of it all. Our team takes the game a little more seriously than most (probably because the rest are half-drunk). Thanks to some great coaching, we have improved immensely! We really enjoy it. Our team definitely has the most fans. Picture all those kiddos in the dugout, along with supportive spouses (of the players, not the kids). Here is our biggest fan:

Eliza has a new mode of transportation. She has is a scooter! She can get across the room or down the hall pretty efficiently, especially if she sees cords or shoes (her two favorite foods). For some reason she loves crawling in between the piano bench legs and the piano. It's her little fort, I guess. I got these pictures just as she was leaving her fort (as you can see from the stack on the piano bench, we've been organizing the book shelves lately).

As for the scouts, they are with Mike out in the rain tonight! Hopefully they aren't too chilly. Tonight is the second night we have been apart in our 3+ years of marriage and the first since Eliza has been around. I am spoiled, I know.

How nice that you guys were able to make such good friends so quick. I still have trouble doing that here. And how adorable is Eliza? So adorable. And what a cute chunk. She weighs more then Ryken I think. : ) But she sure is a cutie. And what a good scooter. : ) Ryken did the worm for awhile. Wish we all lived closer so we could see each other more. But I guess Blogs will have to do. : ) Oh and yep you are spoiled for only being away from your hubby twice in 3 years.

Love the scooting! I found Maddie wedged under the desk chair last week. She doesn’t scoot yet, but rolls, wiggles, etc. into some interesting positions! Emily did the army crawl at six months and I loved watching her scoot around. For her it was a blue bathtub seal that got her moving. So funny!

And wow– only two times apart?! So jealous. We’ve probably spent 6 months apart, though thankfully not all at once! I think six weeks consecutively takes the prize here! In this job he is gone once a month for at least 3-4 days. Yuck!! So enjoy it– I am envious!

How nice that Eliza will have so many friends to play with. I love being in a ward with lots of graduate students - it’s so much easier to make friends because there are lots of people who have a lot in common with you

How blessed you are to have other LDS couples and “instant” friends. Eliza is so cute, can’t wait to meet her someday. She just looks so alert and full of personality! That’s how you were (are) Stephanie!! I remember taking you shopping when you were about 18 months old, you were so funny in the store!!

The softball and the scooting sound like fun, but I’m too old for camping in the rain!

I will never get tired of that picture of all the LDS law school kids. It’s so adorable!
I think that’s crazy that you and Mike have been separated so rarely overnight. I bet he missed the warm bed.
