Eliza's Words of Wisdom (and Mom's Two Cents)

I finally started writing down (well, typing) the funny things Eliza says.  Here are a few from last week:

When I was using the bathroom the other day, Eliza walked in (the open door policy seems to have begun when potty training started) and held onto my shoulders. 

"I'll hold you up Mom."

Eliza has been going through a public potty phobia phase where she will refuse to sit on an unfriendly potty (the auto-flush kind), and needs to be held on any potty oustide our house, because she is afraid she'll fall in.  I appreciated the supportive gesture.

A second later, "Are you making poops Mom?!  I'm so proud of you!"

I'm hiring her out as a potty trainer.  She's enthusiastic and very supportive!

Background: Caleb is pulling clothes out of a basket of clean laundry.

Eliza (distressed): "Oh no!  Mom!  Caleb's spilling my clothes!  That's so sad.  What should we do about it?"

I think this is so funny is because it sounds exactly like what we say to her when she has a potty accident.

Setting: I'm changing Caleb's poopy diaper and I ask Eliza to get Caleb a toy so he doesn't put his hands in his poops.  She hands him a toy which he readily accepts.

Eliza: "He's cooperating!"

That's the first time I've heard her use "cooperating."  She has surprised us by using it in several other situations this week.  I don't think she has ever been explicitly taught its meaning.

When choosing which blanket she and Caleb would have at the hotel:

"Kayba is little, so he can have the little blanket"

It's fun to hear her logical thoughts and complex constructions.

On Sunday mornings, Eliza likes to watch "Finding Faith in Christ," (watch it here)  She calls it the "Jesus Follow the Prophet Movie" for some reason.  We find remnants of the video scattered throughout her play.  For example...

-She likes to drape a small blanket over her head with her face exposed and say "It's my Jesus clothes."
-I found her laying her hands on Caleb's head and saying "I ordain you."
-She tells Caleb "Peace. Be still."
-If you ask her what the disciples say when they're on the boat, she'll tell you, "Master, carest thou not that we perish?"

I am so amazed at the way children's brains absorb so much of what is around them.  It makes me want to be so careful of what my children are exposed to in these formative years.  Besides a few hours a week, my children spend every waking minute by my side.  What are they absorbing from me?

Caleb is giggling in the bedroom after he was supposedly asleep.  Mike listened at the door to hear what was going on.  Eliza was jumping on her bed saying, "Kayba, it's time for jumping!  Jump on your bed like me!"
