Since we've been in California for the six weeks or so, Caleb's language skills have taken off. He had quite a good vocabulary before we came, but since we've been here he has been putting sentences together like crazy. He speaks very clearly and loves being able to have a conversation with anyone.
Caleb has always been a breakfast man. He'll eat several bowls of oatmeal (or several waffles) for breakfast, but will just nibble at dinner (if we're lucky). He wakes up in the night and morning asking for food with urgency. Even when we have things I know he likes he still won't eat much for dinner.
Since Caleb has been without his lawnmower, he has taken up vacuuming. He knows just where to get Grammy's vacuum attachments and knows just what to do with them. It's indoor mowing for him.
Caleb is all boy. He loves following Daddy and Grandpa around as they work on projects in the house. He loves tools and uses a hammer like a pro. He saw a nail sticking out on an old handrail outside and said "Hammer! Fix!" and went to take care of business.
Caleb has had some interest in the potty lately and goes on occasion (though I am waiting to do the actual potty training until we're back at home). The other day he was on the potty and his grown up attendant (Daddy) was distracted with something in the tub and wasn't doing his duty. Caleb's wee wee shot right out of the potty and onto the ground (and his pants and socks). For days Caleb talked about it: "Wee wee get out!"
Usually Caleb is content pushing the vacuum attachments around, but if someone is doing the real thing, he's always on the scene to help.
Caleb is kind of a wimp when it comes to slides. He prefers to be on someone's lap to go down big playground slides.
Grandpa has sugar snap peas in the garden (the kind where you eat the whole pod). Caleb dissected one at dinner time and thought he hit the jackpot when he found "balls" inside. From then on, he loved to eat the little green balls.
Caleb sat incredibly still when Mike cut his hair out on the deck. Eliza was there "to help Caleb be brave" just in case. She also let Mike know when he missed anything.
One Saturday Caleb missed his nap because he was busy building the bathroom with Grandpa. I took him to change his diaper and he fell asleep mid-diaper change. Poor tired kiddo. He still had his tool in his hand, which ended up looking pretty freaky when he was lying there.
Caleb loved playing with Great Grandpa, especially playing with the extra skin on his neck.
