Caleb's Birthday
We arrived home in Illinois the afternoon of Caleb's birthday. Eliza was eager to celebrate. She had been asking Caleb over and over, "What color frosting do you want on your cake?" and other party planning questions. We held her off for a day and celebrated on the 18th.
We had planned to invite some friends over, but once we realized the state our house was in, we quickly changed our plans to a simple family party. Eliza and I made a simple dinosaur cake. Caleb was really looking forward to blowing out the candles, which he did like a champ!
Stephanie's Birthday
Like I mentioned, my birthday fell in the middle of our welcome home disaster (and we still had cake leftover from Caleb's birthday), so we didn't do any serious celebrating, though I must say that what my friends did for me regarding our disaster (while I was out to a movie, no less) is pretty hard to top.
Several weeks later, while I had early meetings at church, Mike and the kids made me the most delicious cake. They didn't mess around with a cake mix, but made the moistest chocolate cake from scratch complete with homemade German chocolate frosting! I was totally impressed. It was delicious. Mike even got me some pinking shears, which I have been wanting for some time now.
