They had the big field sectioned out by age. I waited with Eliza's age group and Mike went with the boys. The field was loaded with eggs all the way out.
I told Eliza to pass up all the first eggs she saw and go out further before starting to pick up eggs. I wasn't sure if she would take my advice and have enough self control to pass up eggs, but she did. And her basket was loaded because of it. The eggs mostly had stickers and made-in-china choking hazards in them, but it was fun to collect them.
Josh caught on pretty quickly.
The kids opened their eggs right away to see if they gone a gold token that could be redeemed for a prize package. I was secretly glad no one got one, because having one kid with a prize is worse than having 3 kids without a prize.
Even more fun than the egg hunt was the petting zoo (well, portable fenced-in area with friendly animals to pet). The kids loved it!
The event was sponsored (or a fundraiser for) the local volunteer fire department, so there were some fire trucks available to explore.
In the afternoon we put on old clothes and dyed eggs. Josh really wanted to use the spoons to eat the dye.
As you can see, he succeeded.
Caleb tried to clean him up.
