Family Updates

Besides monthly kid updates and family outings, I haven't posted much lately, so I thought I'd give a general family update.

We are now a two-car family.  We bought a 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 175,000 miles on it. Our Taurus has been good to us (besides not having A/C for over 3 years) and lasted longer than I thought it might, but it can't fit another car seat, so we needed something bigger before the baby comes in October.

The first time I drove it, I put the window down and couldn't get it to come back up.  Mike took the door off and found that the regulator was broken.  After ordering the part twice (the first time he got the driver's side door one), we got it fixed.  Other than that, the van has treated us well.  We've already put 5,000 miles on it, which brings me to our next update.

We are in California for the summer.  Mike is doing a legal internship in Sacramento.  We are living with his parents, which is especially fun for the kids.  They live pretty far out from, well, anything.  It takes 40 minutes to get to the nearest grocery store or church or anything.  They have land for the kids to explore, though, so the kids stay busy even without friends or parks or storytime.  Grammy and Grandpops have chickens.  The kids love to feed them and collect the eggs.  They even have some new chicks that the kids can hold.

Mike is really enjoying his internship.  He loves being at a small firm with great people.  He is working mostly on trusts and estate planning with one of the partners and is learning lots.  The only downside is that it is a 1.5 hour commute (if traffic is good).  He has decided that after this summer he'll do what he can to avoid having a commute with future jobs.  Adding 3 hours of driving onto every day is exhausting for him. Thankfully he loves what he is doing and the commute is just for the summer.
