Our neat eater (post-yogurt, pre-pasta)
It's probably not customary to still be writing monthly posts about your kid at this age, but since I have been consistent thus far, I see no need to stop now. Plus, the older Eliza gets, the more I have to write about her!
Eliza is pretty passionate about shapes. It's pretty much the first aspect she notices about anything. If we have quesadillas or pizza or tortilla chips, Eliza exclaims "It's a triangle!" She is obsessed with drawing circles. She used to ask us to draw them for her all the time, but now she's pretty good at drawing them herself. Mike was very touched that she drew her first one ever for him. She gave it to him and said, "Draw a circle for Dada!"
Eliza assigns an owner to everything (and I mean everything). She wanted to be picked up the other day, so I held her on my right side (definitely my dominant baby-holding side) and she demanded to be held on the other side because "this is Caleb's side!" Every dish and chair in the house belongs to someone and if the wrong person uses it she has a fit. We have been trying to teach her that these things belong to our family and we all share them.
Eliza loves necklaces and bracelets. She snagged this bling pretty fast when playing at a friend's house.
Eliza has finally started consistently pronouncing Caleb's name properly, though she will still fall back to "Kaybuh" every now and then when she's tired or upset. She also calls him "little boy," "little brother," and "little buddy."
Lately Eliza has been fascinated with waking up. After her nap or in the morning she says "I wake up" or "Eliza wake up" about 5 times and each time with renewed excitement and amazement. She is equally as thrilled when anyone else wakes up.
Eliza doesn't mind breaking things or having things get broken. I almost think she likes to break thing just so she can fix them. "Ooops it broked! We need to fix it! I need to get the tape." She thinks tape can fix everything.
As a side note, I think the double past tense of "broked" is so cute. She is generally (and surprisingly) pretty grammatically correct. She uses definite and indefinite articles like it's her job and is correct with most verb tenses. She occasionally leaves off the subject of a sentence. When she makes mistakes, we repeat the correct form back to her (sometimes as a response) without pointing out the mistake and she corrects herself. It is pretty fun to have a little language learner around. It brings to life all the things I learned in my linguistics classes about language acquisition.
Eliza is still a caring and fun big sister. If Caleb cries for more than a few minutes when I put him down for a nap, Eliza starts worrying about him. The other day he was crying it out while she was eating lunch. After a few minutes she said "We gotta help Caleb." I asked her how we could help him she had several ideas "He needs a toy." "Caleb needs rice cereal." "Caleb needs to drink some milk." She is very good at making sure he has something to play with. She loves to make him laugh.
Eliza wore panties for a few days with some great (and not so great) moments on (and off) the toilet. Unfortunately, she isn't really interested in sitting on the potty and wearing panties all the time. I guess I'll give it a short break and try again later.
Eliza loves pink! At one of the Easter egg hunts we went to, she started passing up eggs that weren't pink! When she plays with the plastic eggs at home, she divides them up by keeping all the eggs that are a shade of pink (or peach) and giving all the others to Caleb. Pretty sweet deal for Caleb, I guess. She always wants socks at bed time (I'm not sure if her feet really are cold or if she's just stalling), but they must be pink. One time when no pink socks were to be found, Mike turned off the light and was able to put some yellow ones on her without her realizing it. Sneaky.
Eliza is so much fun! We love her lots!
